Located in the Central Valley it is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. San Jose is the major transportation hub for Central America. It is the place of national government with political and economic activities on large scale. San Jose City was founded in the year 1738 by Fernandaz but until 1823 it was not declared as capital. It is one of the busiest and youngest cities in Central America. The tourism industry in San Jose City is very growing because of its art and architecture and is the most visited and well known destination among visitors. The first university of Costa Rica was established in San Jose City in the year 1843. Initially it was a small village until 1823, during this time Costa Rica was the first state which was moved by Juan Mora Fernandez from the Spanish capital Cartago. This was the best time to make San Jose the as capital in Federal Republic of Central America when Costa Rica was the capital. San Jose is the stop for all the travelers who want to see the real Costa Rica. This city might be not being city of beauty but there is something for all age groups. The energetic markets and stylish night life will make you fell like you are at a diverse place on earth. There are numerous museums with buildings of colonial style are still visible. This is the best place to understand Costa Rica.

San Jose was just few muddy streets with rocky buildings over 200 years ago. In the year 1737 a nearby little village got the status and gained attention and slowly it became the residential area where people started to settle all around the valley. The first people to gain attention on this city were the Spanish and Creole smugglers. They rebel the rule of commerce industry and got punished for the same. Juan Vasquez de Coronado declared this as colonial capital city in the year 1564. After some years it was named as San Jose which was the name of local patron saint. After the Independence in the year 1821 and by mid of 1800 the coffee industry brought a broom in the culture, prosperity and refinement and San Jose developed in to middle class city where people use to invest for wealth and other social needs. It became the third city in the world to install the electric lighting for the social need of public. It developed with installation of public phones and before the installation in Europe and North America. The development of this city started with huge buildings and muddy roads were changed into highways with lamps, plazas, museums, and grand libraries became the part of this city. It developed with the help of coffee income and many architects came and made plans to build the city with schools of imported prefabricated metals.

San Jose became the tenth populated city of Central America in the year 1940. Most of the monuments and buildings were destroyed after World War II, and was further replaced into modern architecture. The hills surround the city twinkle in night and the nearby villages slowly became the part of this city. San Jose is the major transportation hub but for the first time visitors it might be confusing. Most of the people travel in busses and there are many bus terminals including Coca Cola bus terminal which is one of the well known terminal including San Carlo, Caribe and Musoc. Coca Cola bus terminal is located on the Costa Rica’s first Coca Cola bottling plant for this reason it has given the name as Coca Cola bus terminal and is one of the most used and well known landmark in Costa Rica.

How to reach San Jose City

There are two major airports to handle the hustle and bustle of city. It is located in the Central Valley visitors arrive to Costa Rica International airport will serve you if you are planning to stay in Costa Rica. Bus services are available from Costa Rica to San Jose. Aeropuerto Internacional Jaun Santamaria is the international airport which handles the international traffic and has an office in the city to provide the best information to the visitors. Aeropuerto Tobias Bolanos is the domestic airport serves the domestic flights in San Jose. Sansa, Nature Air is domestic flights which have access to Central America, while Air France, Alitalia, American Airlines; British Airways serves international visitors to Costa Rica and San Jose. Busses and taxis are easily available in San Jose.

When to go San Jose City

The city remains warm and humid almost all round the year. Rainy season starts from April to late November. December holiday season is the best time to visit San Jose and it is the most cool and pleasant time of the year. But at this time the rates are high in case of accommodation. San Jose celebrates the Festival de Arte a film festival with music, arts, theatre and much more in the month of March.

The Hotel Del Rey in located in San Jose is the most well known center for live music, dancing, gambling, drinking etc there are many five stars to two stars hotels in San Jose providing all types of facilities and entertainment for every age group. Mid range, low range and expensive hotels all are available easily. Hotel Don Carlos, Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Hotel La Cuesta etc all is centrally located with many amenities.
