There is an interesting vibe that you will get from Puerto Viejo Costa Rica. This is said to be the largest of all the tourist destinations in Costa Rica. The vibe to first hit you when you step foot here will be ‘laid back’.

Located in the Limon province, which lies on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, this region of the world is a paradise for beach lovers. The vibrancy of the sea side town, combined with the beauty of the flora and fauna makes for an interestingly heady mix. The region is also becoming an increasingly popular spot with the surfers who come in from all over the world. The Salsa Brava waves make the Caribbean a ‘must visit’ place when in the Limon region.

This region was earlier a quiet little fishing village. The indigenous cultures blended with the Afro-Caribbean and Latino crowd make for an interestingly relaxed mix of people to ‘chill’ with, when on vacation.

Not Everybody’s Cup of Tea:

Here are some common mistruths about the region; and read on as we bust them for you.

There isn’t anything down there. Why live there?

Puerto Viejo may have no golf courses, tennis courts or marinas; and very few of the hotels have any A/C running. As the locals put it, these rumors about the place have helped keep a big chunk of the pricey tourists out of the place, retaining the good charm of the place they’ve chosen to live in.

Afro-Caribbeans are all you get.

According to a latest survey, about 80% of the local inhabitants are the indigenous population of Bri-Bri. However, given the fact that they live outside the town, they have lesser visibility. The remaining population is made up of African-Caribbean people who were descendants from the Jamaican workers. The presence is known to add to the local culture. In the census of 2002, there were people from 49 countries who have now found their way to Puerto Viejo Costa Rica.

It rains all the time.

Given the fact that the region falls under the purview of being a rain forest, it is bound to get rain. But if compared to the annual inches of rain found in other popular places of the Pacific, you will realize that the southern coast of Caribbean region is said to be the driest of them all.

The main difference lies in the fact that the rain in this region is known to get spread out across the year.

Keeping all these facts in mind may be you’ll want to plan a visit to Puerto Viejo Costa Rica; only if the laid back attitude, with no air-conditioning suits you.

The Mexicans celebrate the Day of the Dead between the 31st of October and the 2nd of November. This is a time to remember and honor the deceased ones. As gloomy and downright morbid as it may sound, it is not. It is anything but a gloomy time, it is a festive time and is considered a very colorful holiday. During these days, the Mexicans will visit the cemeteries and end up decorating the graves and spending some time there. They might even make some very elaborate looking altars in their homes. All this is done to welcome the spirits.

Origins of the Festival:

During the Prehispanic times, the deceased were generally given a burial close to the family house where they had resided all these years. In some cases, a tomb was even created right underneath the house. The Mexicans believed in maintaining ties with the ones who had ‘gone before’. The ancient ancestors, although dead, were said to have existed on a different plane.

The Spaniards brought Catholic belief and faith with them; and the practices of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day began getting incorporated into the beliefs of the Hispanics.

The belief behind this Day of the Dead is said to be that the spirits are said to return to Earth for a single day every year; and they do so to spend some time with their families. According to the Mexicans, babies/children who’d died will arrive first on the 31st of October, the adults were said to follow on the next day.

The Altars:

The spirits were said to be greeted with things that they used to enjoy during their earthly life. All of these items would be laid out in the family home on the Day of the Dead. The people believe that the spirits would actually consume the essence of the food and once the spirits depart, the living people will consume the food and even share it with family and friends.

Sugar skulls will also be placed on the altar. The person’s name will be inscribed on the top.

The Cemeteries:

Earlier, the deceased were buried close to the house, so there was no need to actually decorate the grave and then the altars at home. But now that the dead are being buried at a distance from their homes, the graves will also be decorated during these days. The belief is that the souls will return to their graves first.

In some other places, it is customary for people to spend the whole night at the cemetery. They sit there, drinking and talking; and make a picnic out of it.

Well, we aren’t saying that there is anything wrong with the all-inclusive resort packages; but then again a visit to one of the few remaining tropical rain forests of the world might make for an ultimate honeymoon. A good half of the living species on earth are said to be found here in what makes up for about 6% of world, which is what makes up for the rain forest spaces globally.

The advances made in eco-tourism mean that travelers can now visit these rare environments without having to compromise on the comfort and luxury factor. For those who are interested in nature, wildlife, adventure and a forest getaway, such a vacation/honeymoon would mean endless amount of possibilities.

Peru:

What:
A good three ecosystems are known to merge into each other within the boundaries of the Tambopata National Reserve that lies in Southern Peru. The three ecosystems would include the Pampas slopes, the Andean foothills and the Amazonian plain. The 11 types of forests found in this region are what make it one of the most diverse ecological stretches in the world. It is said to encompass about 680,000 acres and is known to house about 600 species of birds and 1200 species of butterflies. The mammals are known to add up to around 169 species and around 13 of these species are said to be endangered.

Where:
Tambopata is located in the southeastern part of Peru, which lies near the Bolivian border.

When:
Peru is said to have a few differing climates, but the southern Amazon area is said to be consistent in its damp, humid and hot climatic conditions. The best time to visit this region would be during May to October which makes for the driest months. The rains are pretty regular through the year. Mosquitoes and rivers that overflow could be a problem during the seasons that are wet.

Costa Rica:

What:
The Corcovado National Park is known to be the crème de la crème of what is known as the Costa Rican rain forest. It is known for the unusual variety of fauna and flora. The park is known to sustain a good amount of area of the lowland tropical rain forests. It would mean that the original biodiversity system is said to be intact. Visitors have said that have witnessed jaguar sightings here. Sloths and bull sharks are also common in these 263 square miles.

Where:
Corcovado National Park is said to be the Oso Peninsula which lies in the southwest Costa Rica.

When:
The dry season is known to run from December from April. The best months to visit would be the wet season which is also known as the green season. This would include the months of May, June, and even November and early parts of December.

Belize:

What:
Southern Belize is what makes for an off the beaten track option for a vacation or a honeymoon. It stretches from the Belize Barrier Reef to foothills of the Maya Mountains. The Toledo District is said to house the most unspoiled rain forests that can be seen in the country. This region of the Belize sees the least number of tourists in spite of the estuaries, Mayan ruins, waterfalls, sinkholes and the cave networks. It is also home to seven major parks and the wildlife reserves. The Toledo rain forests are said to house species like the fox, deer, jaguar, tropical birds, howler monkeys, crocodiles and the armadillo.

Where:
The Toledo District is said to encompass about 1699 square miles of Southern Belize.

When:
The dry season is said to be shorter in these areas. It will typically last from the months of January to April and April is said to be the driest month. The highest amounts of rainfall will be seen in September and October.

Tulum is a site where the pre Columbian Maya walled city which served as major port for Coba. The ruins here are located on the twelve meter cliffs which go along the east coast of the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula. This place is located on the Caribbean Sea in Quintana Roo in Mexico. This apparently is one of the best preserved Mayan sites. And today this place is a very famous tourist destination

This site was earlier known as Zama. This literally meant the city of dawn. Also, Tulum is the Mayan word for wall. . The wall which surrounded this mighty fort at Tulum served as a strong defensive technique against any foreign invasion. . This place has many descriptions of murals along with other works all around this site. The Tulum appears to be an important place of worship for the god that dove into the waters here.

Juan de Grijalva’s famous expedition of the fifteenth century, he found this place and gave a detailed description of the ruins that were found here which were published later by john Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood.

It so happened that Stephens and Catherwood visited the Tulum region in the nineteenth century. While they arrived here, they saw a large and talk building which impressed them incredibly. After this they made maps of the walls of this place along with the buildings here. Catherwood went on tot further made beautiful sketches of the Castillo and many others. These people also stumbled across a classic stele which was inscribed from the year five hundred and sixty four.

There was work that continued through ninteen thirtheen. This work was initiated by Sylvanus Morlet and George P Howe. These people worked here to restore the beaches and open it up to the public. The work that was continued here was by the Carbnegia institution. The site was later mapped by Samuel Lothrop in the year nineteen twenty four.

Sander and miller later conducted an investigation in this area. And found out that Tulum was earlier occupied during the Post Classic period which was around twelve hundred AD. During the sixteenth century, the Spanish came here and then the site was left completely abandoned by the end of the sixteenth century.

The Architecture in this place is in the typical style of the Maya sites. These lie on the east of the Yucatan Peninsula. There is a step that lies around the base of the building and this step lies close to the substructure. There are doorways of this type which is usually quite narrow. If the building is big then the columns are used as supports. There are usually two sets of moulding at the top where the walls flare out.

There is an alter in each of the rooms and two small windows. These are then roofed by either a beam or rubble ceiling. These are usually vaulted. Chichecn Itza has similar type of architecture that is found here. The only difference being that this place is of a smaller size.

There was a five meter wall which protected Tulum from one side and steep sea cliffs that were on the other wise. The wall was built about eight meters thick and the part of the wall that actually went along with width of the site.

Building this wall must have taken lots of energy manpower, resources and of course time! This just goes to show how important it was for the Mayans to have good defense. There are small structures that that are on the northwest corner which have been now identified as watch owners. The Mayan people gave a lot of importance to the protection and the defense of their land. Are narrow gateways; about five of them , two at the north end , two at the south end and one at the west end. . The northern side of the wall has a small Cenote which would provide the city with a fresh water supply.

This wall is one of the key structures that make Tulum the best fortified of all the Mayan Ruins. The temple of Frescoes is one of the most spectacular buildings here. This also includes a lower gallery and a second smaller story gallery. This figures of the diving god and the famous deity Venus, are what decorate the facade of this temple.

There is a stucco of the diving god just above the entrance at the western wall. This figure is still preserved well and his is also where the temple gets its name from. The Castillo was built where an earlier building used to stand. That building used to have a Colonnaded and a beam with a mortar roof. . This apparently is beacon which was used as a warning sign for canoes that came close to here.

Despite the fact that your ideal Puerto Rico vacation heavily determine on what it is you are desiring to do at the same time as you are there, I am here to suggest a list of my preferred cities, as well as what I believe each one be supposed to do there.

Puerto Rico Vacations – Things to Do:

Isabela
Still, to a certain extent wild area in lots of ways, the finest of this city are to be start by the side of its coastline, not within its streets. Isabela is an unbelievable place meant for surfing, as well as while there are a number of spots that embrace grand surfing beaches, the Jobos in particular, relatively less polluted and crowded than Rincon.

San Juan
Clearly, you can’t go on a Puerto Rico vacation exclusive of at least halting in San Juan. Being the capital city, there are a quite more than a few of things to do, as well as to see, so you could squander a complete trip here, without being able to experience everything it has to offer. There are many places which people will direct you to like Casa Blanca, or else Capilla del Cristo. San Juan is a great place to escape and the best spots according to me are the clubs like Club Liquid and pubs in this region. Thus, the nightlife is the butter and bread of San Juan.

Fajardo
Almost certainly, my preferred place to go on a Puerto Rico vacation, or any vacations, Fajardo is great choice. Although it do not have the to a large extent of attractions you might come across in other cities, Fajardo is a great place to loosen up, particularly on the beach, with abundance of accommodations in a straight line on the sand, as well as profusion of natural places of interest that will permit you to be pleased about the attractiveness of the country.

These are few places among a big list to where to start for the singles on the Puerto Rico Vacation. Mind it, its just couple of best things I loved about the Puerto Rico vacation which I hope so you enjoy too.

Havana formally Ciudad de La Habana, is the capital metropolitan, major harbor, and most important commercial hub of Cuba. The capital is one of the fourteen Cuban regions. The city has a population of around 2.4 million, and the city region above 3.7 million, building Havana the major city equally in Cuba as well as Caribbean area. The city expands generally southward and westward as of the bay, which is penetrated throughout a slender creek and which separates into three chief harbors: Marimelena, Atarés and Guanabacoa. The sluggish River Almendares cross the city as of north to soutn, piercing the Straits of Florida not many km from west region of the inlet. The expansion of city halted n 1959, while it has experienced a net failure of existing divisions, even though there was an increase in the population.

In 1592, Spain’s King Philip II gave Havana the label of City and a noble verdict in 1634 acknowledged its significance by authoritatively nominated as the “Key to the New World and Rampart of the West Indies”. Havana’s covers of arms have this caption. The Spaniards started constructing fortifications; later in 1553 they changed the governor’s house from Santiago de Cuba to Havana on the eastern frontier of the atoll, thus building Havana the de facto center. The significance of harbor ramparts was untimely renowned as French, English and Dutch sea prowler invaded the capital in the sixteen century. The falling of Maine, the United States battle vessel in Havana’s waterfront in 1898 was the instantaneous reason of the Spanish-American warfare.

Contemporary Havana is the heart of the Cuban administration, and different ministries and head office of trades are found there.

History:-

Four century narration of the capital is a traditional saga of attack, immigration, rebellion and renaissance. Suspended on the storm-lashed shorelines of the deliberately significant Straits of Florida, the capital has been sequentially raid by bandits, protected by the Spanish, occupied by the British, twisted into an infamous betting cave by the Americans and worn as a crowd emigration spot by numerous of escaping Cuban expatriates. Stroke, escapade, stage show and conspiracy – Habana has the entire.

Climate:-

Havana, similar to a lot of Cuba, likes a pleasing tropical weather throughout the year that is raged by the island’s location in the belt of the trade storms and by the humid offshore waves. According to the Koppen weather classification, Havana has sultry savanna weather. Standard temperatures vary from 25 °C in January-February to 30 °C in month of August. The hotness rarely drops beneath 12 °C. The least recorded temperature was in Santiago de Las Vegas and Boyeros which was 1 °C. The lowest verified temperature in Cuba was in Havana’s province of Bainoa and was 0 °C. Precipitation is maximum from June to October and minimum from December to April, the average annual rainfall in around 1200 mm.

Tourism:-

The name Havana frequently extracts memoirs of Spanish Explorers, revolutionary heroes, besides Ernst Hemingway. Inhabited for more than 400 years this coastal Caribbean urban is affluent in narration, manner, and civilization. Havana possesses broad roads and old fortress, next to the impressive cathedrals offered to faith exclusive to Cuba.

There is a lot to amuse tourists in Havana with above 50 museums, wonderfully re-established 18-19th Century structures, magnificent community squares and record at each turn.

Splurge a day, or 2, or constant a week to wholly value the entire that Havana has to present. There is a little to plead to each one’s savor, from a museum dedicated to automobiles of the year 1950 to concealed trinkets of roads where an unrehearsed “rumba” performing team might start dancing.

The capital is simple to be accessed by simply walking and magnificent revelations expect you about every avenue angle.

Nevertheless, the greatest ingredient of Havana is the natives. Outgoing and Friendly these citizens are pompous of their immense metropolitan and joyful to notify you each and every thing regarding it. Havana is an occurrence you won’t quickly overlook.

Highlights of Havana:-

Transportation:-

Cubans rely profoundly on an undependable bus arrangement that is inexpensive, but congested and time-consuming with extended queues and contradictory roads and timetables. Huge buses acknowledged as ‘camellos’ are dragged by automobile engines and are chiefly teeming, but awfully economical. Nearly all tourists to Havana shun the buses instead uses copious, cheap cabs to get about the greater branch of the capital. Hiring a car isn’t the greatest alternative as car rent is costly, routes aren’t much sign-posted, and also various 1-way roads craft driving a true dare.

Diverse kinds of cabs tour the roads, counting tourist cabs, 2-seater bike-cabs, and colectivos also the coco-taxis. Mainly tourist cabs are AC installed, metered and in good condition. Bike-cabs, colectivos and coco-taxis are formally not invented to carry tourists. A team of traditional cars can be rented by tourists for expeditions about the town and can be seen outside major visitor attractions like the Capitolio or the Revolution Museum.

For a great deal of the twenty century, San José was largely a farming city. On the other hand, subsequent to the post-war little one explosion, the ever-increasing city immigration totally malformed the capital in the number of years. In the span of 30 starting from 1950 up to 1980, the San Jose city inhabitants enlarged exponentially, and volatile enlargement, terrible architectural conservation and unfettered expansion distorted the graceful capital into an extensive as well as unpleasant metropolitan area.

These days, Chepe, as it’s acknowledged by the Ticos, is the mainly multi-ethnic capital situated in Central America. The city is crowded with a number of shopping malls as well as office towers and also the fast-food joints, despite the fact that thriving entrepreneurship has left a great piece of the capital’s inhabitants disenfranchised. By means of every momentary year, the out-of-the-way slums (commonly known as the tugurios) turn out to be more anxious as well as all the time more aggressive, and the metropolis is under pressure to supervise the rising offense speed that is uncharacteristic of the “pura vida” fortitude.

For the majority of tourists, a halt in San José is looked upon as an essential wickedness previous to moving the route to the genuine Costa Rica. On the other hand, the population of San José who are commonly known as “josefinos”, San José may not be a mania of exquisiteness; however it is the hub of the entire.

A stopover in San Jose city for a number of days can surely proffer a viewpoint on the factual countenance of the country and without a doubt there is reality to the notion of ‘beauty on your doorstep.’ The marketplaces are vivacious and the nightlife is as stylish as you fancy it to be. San José is domicile to a number of museums and there are small amounts of localities where imposing approach exude even in the modern time. Additional prominently on the other hand, San José is abode to over 1/3 of the entire Ticos, and the attack on the intelligence that is Chepe is possibly your best chance for accepting contemporary Costa Rica.

History:-

The prospect capital city of the region of Costa Rica was recognized in the year1737 as “Villanueva de la Boca del Monte del Valle de Abra” which means “New Village of the Mountain’s Mouth in the Open Valley”, despite the fact that the name was afterward changed to a extra convenient San José in admiration of Joseph, the town’s benefactor saint. Fascinatingly sufficient, the beginning of San José was the consequence of a proclamation from the Catholic cathedral, which declared that the inhabitants must stay near a church (number present was losing times were awful, and cathedral were contemptible to be constructed).

For a great deal of the regal period, San José cooperated as the second swindle to the greater as well as comparatively additional recognized Cartago. Subsequent to the bolt from the blue announcement that was made in the year 1821 that Spain had discarded its majestic holdings in the Central America in the cities of Cartago as well as the San José signed a sequence of unfilled worded agreements at the same time as clandestinely organizing for the battle. In the year 1823, on April 5, San José overpowered Cartago during the “Battle of Ochomongo”, and consequently affirmed itself as the capital of the country.

Even though San José bigheartedly proffered to turn around the status of the capital, resentment developed, and in the year 1835, on September 26, Cartago as well as Heredia and also Alajuela connected forces in an effort to kick out the town. In a blockade that turn out to be acknowledged as the “La Guerra de la Liga” which is commonly known as “the War of the Leagues”, San José overpowered its invaders as well as it continued its position as the capital of the country.

Up to date years have been noticeable by huge city immigration as Ticos shifted to the capital in hunt of greater than before financial opportunities. Unluckily, this has effected in the formation of shanty towns on the outer edge of the capital city, and offense is progressively more turning out to be a way of existence for a lot of scarcity stricken population. Ticos are rapid to blame at the Nicaraguans for sourcing to the squalor of their capital city, and even though these clusters are positively element of the difficulty, the overall picture is greatly more multifaceted.

Transportation:-

San Jose city is considered as the heart of the transportation system of the country, and it’s probable that you’ll exceed in the course of the capital many times all the way through your movements (whether you want that or not). Unluckily, the transportation system is to a certain extent confusing to the first-time tourists, particularly bearing in mind that the majority populace gets in the region of the country by bus, even though there is no essential bus fatal. In its place, there are a number of bus terminals, stops etc and yet an old Coca-Cola bottling set that are sprinkled in the region of the metropolis, each and every one serving dissimilar locations. Hard works have been completed to merge the various bus services as well as the utilization of the Coca-Cola, Caribe San Carlo, as well as Musoc terminals which will absolutely help the circumstances.
