Dallas is a city of North America and is the third largest in Texas by gaining a reputation of the eight largest cities in the United States. It has a population of more than 6,300,006 and is the major economic center of the 12 county Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan areas. This city was established in the year 1841 and was officially integrated as a city in February, 1856. Its economy is based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer technology, energy and transportation. It covers an area of about 385 square miles out of which 342.5 square miles is of land and 42.5 square miles is of water.
The climate of Dallas possesses a humid subtropical climate. It also receives warm and dry winds from the northern and western directions during summer. During summer, Dallas is among the hottest place in the United States typically trailing only the Mojave Desert basin of Arizona, southern Nevada and Southeastern California. Besides, summer, winter here are mild. This season offers sunny and clear skies but sometimes strong cold fronts come through the Dallas region which is called as Blue Northers. Snow gathering could be seen at every winter at least for once. December, January and February are the months when winter could be found. Spring and autumn are the seasons that bring pleasant weather. During spring you can see wildflowers like bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrush and other flora. These are planted in the region of the highways all through the Texas.
Thunderstorm and lightning are also common at this place due to the cool fronts that passes towards south from Canada and collide with warm and humid air that flows from the Gulf Coast. This brings rain, hail and sometimes tornadoes. The thunderstorms could be found during the season of spring. So you can enjoy this place with mild winter and summer.
The skyline of Dallas has few of the buildings that cover more than 700 feet of height. Some of the architectural buildings are made during the 19th and early 20th century which is of modernist and postmodernist eras. Some of the modernist architecture is Reunion Tower, the JFK Memorial, I.M. Pei’s Dallas City Hall and Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The postmodernist skyscrapers include Fountain Place, Bank of America Plaza, Renaissance Tower, JPMorgan Chase Tower and Comerica Bank Tower. Few of the small structures are shaped in the Gothic Revival style like Kirby Building and the neoclassical style like Davis and Wilson Buildings. Go around the Swiss Avenue and you will find there all shades and variations of architecture right from the Victorian to neoclassical.

Few other attractions where you should visit is the Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum, JFK Memorial, Dallas County Historical Plaza, Fair Park, the African-American Museum, Museum of Nature & Science, IMAX Theater and the Planetarium, The Women’s Museum, Texas Discovery Gardens, The Hall of State, the Museum of the American Railroad, Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Music Hall at Fair Park. The only attraction where you cannot visit at present is the Dallas Aquarium as it is under renovation and will reopen in the year 2010 as The Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park. Besides this, Fountain Place and the Wilson Block Historic District are the attractions worth visiting.

Reach at the city of Dallas by air. The nearest airport here is Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. This airport is situated at a distance of 30 kilometres from Downtown Dallas. Another small airport that lies 10 kilometre from Downtown is actually a regional airport which was served by the national airlines like Southwest, American and Continental. Besides this, you can also travel here by rail. Two main routes are there in Dallas. One is from northeast to Chicago and other is from Southwest to San Antonio. Amtrak offers rail services to the city of Dallas. You can also go by road as the motorway network in America is excellent. The freeways and interstates are the two main routes that connect the entire city. Greyhound Buses function out of the bus station at 205 South Lamar Street.
