North America

United States has mind-blowing locations. People from all over the world love to be a part of this country as it fascinates them from all levels may be its development, beautiful sites, climate and everything. Tourist throng to every parts of the country and I am one of the tourists who love United States and its attractions. So I went to Houston, one of the major attractions in United States. It is the fourth largest city in the country and is also the largest city in the state of Texas. Houston’s population is 2.2 million and the city covers an area of 600 square miles. Originally, Houston was established on August 30, 1836, by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and also John Kirby Allen. The city was named after president of the Republic of Texas who was the former General Sam Houston.

Houston fondly, is also known as the Bayou City which was once nicknamed as Space City. The city was extensively recognised as the energy capital of the world. Within a year after establishment, the city became capital of Republic of Texas till 1840. The city has so much to offer right from its high rise skyline to the wide and pleasant waterways that are bordered by lush green landscape. It is a vibrant centre of business especially in oil right from the time of black gold which was discovered close to Beaumont in the year 1901.

What makes this city even more magnificent is that Houston is a home to NASA and the Johnson Space Center which is the base for mission Control and also is the place for astronauts who are trained. The Port is connected to the city through an 80 kilometre of inland waterway which is called as the Houston Ship Channel. The port offers magnificent sites to the visitors who enter the city of Houston by cruise and make their holidays special. When I visited Houston, I experienced a wonderful time there by exploring the parks, waterways, monuments, landmarks, museums and many other attractions.

A walk around the historical waterfront in Sesquicentennial Park and also on the Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade was fascinated me a lot. Houston is a perfect tourist destination and eco-tourism city where people love to visit and get enormous pleasure. I also enjoyed visiting the Bayou Place where restaurants, live music and a multiplex cinema makes the Downtown Theater District even more attractive. As Houston enjoys temperate climate round the year you will experience humidity in the height of summer season that makes the city warm. This climate offers lush green gardens, fragrant flowers and towering trees that make the city vibrant.

Houston accommodates some 337 parks that comprises of Hermann Park that houses the Houston Zoo and Houston Museum of Natural Science, Terry Hershey Park, Lake Houdton Park, Memorial Park, Tranquility Park, Sesquicentennial Park, Discovery Green and Sam Houston Park. Parks and green spaces cover some 56,405 acres of land in Houston. This city is well-developed and the sky touching buildings and its transportation plays a major role in glorifying the city. To experience a modest collection of structures, the Downtown Houston is the best place for it.

This city enjoys humid subtropical climate with spring that brings supercell thunderstorms sometimes. Summer temperature reaches to 32 degree Celsius which is a common temperature. January month brings the coldest season with 17 degree Celsius and average low is of 5 degree Celsius. To enter the city of Houston you can acquire ordinary tourist and entry visas from the consulate at Houston right on the same day of your arrival. Many nationals do not require any visas so better if you seek information from your embassy about the visa requirement otherwise; a valid passport is enough for you.

Some of the attractions worth visiting are Children’s Museum of Houston, Water Wall, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Space Center Houston, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Holocaust Museum, and many others.
