The city of Denver and its County is situated in Colorado. It is the capital city of Colorado and is also the most inhabited state of the United States. This city lies in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains towards the east of the Front Range of Rocky Mountains. It called by its nickname as well which is Mile-High City due to its official height of one mile that is of 5,280 feet above the sea level. You will find this city at the eastern direction of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River that lies at a distance of 15 miles towards the east of the Rocky Mountains.

It has an approximate population of 3,049,562 that makes it as the 16th most inhabited US metropolitan area. It is the second major city after Phoenix in the Mountain West. Well, it is the major city in the Front Range Urban Corridor along with a combined statistical area that draws out in two states across the eighteen counties. As per the population, this city has the tenth biggest central business district in the United States. This city was established in the year 1858 at the month of November. It was found as a mining town at the time of Pikes Peak Gold Rush in the western Kansas Territory.

Earlier, Montana City was established where the first settlement was taken place and this led to the establishment of the Denver City. The site of Montana City is today acts as a Grant-Frontier Park and has mining equipment along with a log cabin replica. As history never ends, this place is also enclosed with thousands of histories that are linked with it and together forms a magnificent attraction for which people throngs from every corner of the world just to have a glance of it and be a part of Denver for few days.

Denver covers an area of about 154.9 square miles out of which 1.6 square miles are covered by water. The city and County of Denver is bounded by three counties and they are Adams County towards the north and east, Arapahoe County to the south and east and Jefferson County towards the west. It lies in the middle of the Front Range Urban Corridor between the Rocky Mountains towards the west and High Plains towards east.

It is sheltered from harsh cold and strong winds and snow fall could be found at the month of June and September. So winter varies from mild to cold but sometimes Chinook winds occur by crossing over the mountains making the snow to get melted. Denver has more than 200 parks where you can visit and have fun. It has variations of parks from the small mini-parks to the great 314 acre City Park. This city also has 29 recreation centers that offer places and programming for recreation and relaxation for the residents.

This city also has architectural landscapes among which the first in the city was brought by Reinhard Schuetze. He is the first architect who brought his German-educated landscaping genius among others to Cheesman Park, Washington Park, and City Park. You should once visit these parks especially the Civic Center Park and at almost all the parks you will find tree lawns or greenery that is nourished by the South Platte River.

Hike at the mountains like Red Rocks Park, and the mountains where Winter Park Resort is situated. Besides this, you should visit at the key attractions of this place like the Coors Field, Larimer Square, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Molly Brown House Museum and Denver Art Museum. For sightseeing you have again many other options like Horse-drawn carriages, the Downtown, US Mint, Colorado History Museum and Molly Brown House Museum.

Nightlife

After burning your legs during day time enjoy the night life at Denver at bars, clubs and live musics. Spend your time at Wynkoop Brewing Company, Falling Rock Tap House, Cru, Mynt, Herman’s Hideaway, EI Chapultepec and The Church. Also try few other clubs like Vinyl and La Rumba. Theatres like Ogden Theatre, the Bluebird Theater and the Fillmore Auditorium are the places where you can hang on during night time.

After your hectic days and nights try spending little time in shopping as Denver has a huge area for shopping. It is the major shopping city in the radius of 966 kilometres. While shopping, you can also spend few of your time in restaurants, variety of stores, galleries, cafes and nightclubs that lies all around.

Getting there

You have three modes of transportation through which you can reach to the city of Denver easily. By air you have Denver International Airport situated at a distance of 38 kilometre from the northeast of Downtown Denver. All the basic facilities will be available at the airport. From airport you can catch the RTD’s Skyride buses that will lead you ahead to the downtown. Few other shuttle buses like the Supershuttle Denver are also available from the airport.

By rail you have Union Station where you can get down. Amtrak offers trains from this station. The California Zephyr and The Ski Train are also provides their own services. To experience a scenic journey try the Ski Train that runs through the Rocky Mountains to Winter Park Resort that takes journey time of about two hours.

And if you are traveling by road then you should know that Denver is a city in the United States. So the transportations facilities and routes are excellent. For transportation you will get interstate Highways and State Highways and also smaller country roads from where you can reach to the city. Travel through I-70, I-25, I-15, I-80 and I-94. These routes will head you towards the city. All you have to follow a map of this place. You will get many buses here that functions frequently from the Greyhound Bus Terminal and from other places.
