Christchurch City is located at the Pegasus Bay from the southern end and is the second major city in New Zealand. It could be seen in South Island between Banks Peninsula and the Canterbury Plains. This name was given by the Canterbury Association on 27 March 1848 and was recommended by John Robert Godley. River Avon flows through the city’s centre which was named to honor the Scottish Avon.
