The city of Bath is a world heritage site. Located in the county of Somerset, it is 97 miles west of England’s capital city of London. Bath is nourished by natural hot springs and offers a wonderful experience as it is full of marvelous architecture and it doubles up as a great shopping destination.

Bath is full of Art. It is famous for works ranging from poems, designer artists, architects, actors and musicians. Bath is home to two renowned arts events, namely The Fringe Festival and Bath International Music festival.

Entertainment has always had a great say for this city. The Bath International Music festival, staged once a year is followed by a literacy, guitar and film festival. Bath has everything for wholesome entertainment, from theatres, multiplexes, night clubs and comedy clubs.

Some of the famous landmarks of Bath include architectural masterpieces such as the Royal Crescent, Circus and Pulteney Bridge. Some other attractions are the Roman Baths temple and Thermae Bath Spa.

Let’s go through some places, which define Bath.

Roman Baths temple

Build by the Romans, the bathing complex is full of natural hot water.

Thermae Bath Spa uses the natural warm and mineral-rich waters. This is Britain’s only original and natural thermal spa.

In additional there are a number of day spas, which allows one to enjoy a short treatment or complementary therapy. Popular among day spas are Hands on Health, Frontlinestyle, Champneys, Lucknam Park Leisure Spa, Neal’s Yard Remedies, just to name a few.

Let’s go through a brief history of Bath.

It is believed, way back in A.D. 43, the Romans created baths from the natural hot water springs. Later, these baths decayed until Queen Victoria’s reign, when they were rediscovered.

Bath was always a holiday destination. During the 18th century, Bath ranked as the most fashionable in Britain and the credit for this distinction went to John Wood, Sr and his son John Wood, Jr, both of whom were architects. In the process of developing the city, they made good use of the stones of the nearby hills. They developed Palladian villas and the landscaped terraces and the result is here for everyone to see, we now have a architectural masterpiece in England.

Let’s get back to the present day Bath and have a look at the popular eateries one should visit.

Sally’s Lunn’s House is popular place for the complete English meal. Additionally, there are a large number of eating points like the Moon and Sixpence, The Pump house, The Bathtub Bistro and the Hole in the wall.

The city of Bath has inspired many and one such person is Jane Austen, who went on to include information about Bath in her famous novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.

Bath is an excellent destination for the modern day tourist. In addition to the attractions listed above, Bath is also not too hard on the pocket either. One can stay at the luxurious Bath spa hotel and the low-income budget tourist can spend a day or two at the modestly priced St. Christopher’s Inn, which is famous for stunning views it provides of the street from the second-storey rooms.
